General Fitment and Compatibility Notice

StowAway Cargo Carriers will typically fit the vehicles listed below when they are properly equipped with a Class III or Class IV 2 inch hitch receiver.

Vehicle and hitch tongue weight ratings can vary by model year and configuration. End users are responsible for confirming that their specific vehicle and hitch are rated to safely support the weight of a hitch-mounted cargo carrier and its contents prior to use.

At the time of order, customers will be asked to provide certain vehicle and clearance dimensions. StowAway will review the information provided and ship the frame configuration that is best suited to the indicated setup based on the submitted dimensions. Customers are responsible for ensuring that all submitted information is accurate and complete. For more information about our frame types, please visit our frame overview or contact us.

1 - Tongue Weight Notice

This vehicle typically has a maximum tongue weight rating below 300 lbs, depending on model year, configuration, and hitch equipment. Allowable tongue weight is established by the vehicle manufacturer and may vary based on trim level, factory tow packages, and installed hitch components.

The end user is responsible for ensuring that the combined weight of any hitch-mounted accessory and its associated cargo does not exceed the maximum tongue weight ratings specified for the vehicle and hitch.

2 - Rear Door Clearance Notice

Vehicles equipped with single or double side-swing rear doors may not be able to open those doors fully when a standard StowAway Swingaway frame is installed. On vehicles with double rear doors, the passenger-side door typically opens to approximately 70 to 80 degrees, while the driver-side door will open fully. On vehicles with a single side-swing rear door, the door typically opens to approximately 60 to 70 degrees. Actual clearance may vary by vehicle model and configuration.

Full rear door clearance on these vehicles may be achieved when using a StowAway Wide-Swing Swingaway frame.

3 - Rear-Mounted Spare Tire and Ladder Clearance Notice

Vehicles equipped with rear-mounted spare tires, ladders, or other rear-mounted accessories require sufficient clearance for proper installation and operation of a StowAway carrier. Clearance is measured from the center of the vehicle's hitch pin hole to the furthest rearward point of the vehicle, spare tire, ladder, or accessory.

Maximum allowable rear obstruction depth by frame type is as follows:

  • Standard Swingaway, Low-Rise Swingaway, and Wide-Swing Swingaway Frames: Up to 12.75 inches
  • Extra-Far Swingaway Frame: Up to 14.25 inches. This frame may not be compatible with vehicles equipped with single or double side-swing rear doors.

If the measured distance exceeds the listed clearance for the selected frame type, a StowAway carrier will not fit on your vehicle without use of a hitch extender. Use of a hitch extender will reduce the effective tongue weight capacity of the vehicle and hitch, and must be evaluated carefully before installation.

Rear-mounted spare tires and ladders may also affect swing clearance. On vehicles with single or double side-swing rear doors, these accessories may further reduce the achievable door opening angle when the carrier is swung open. Actual clearance and door swing will vary by vehicle model, accessory size, frame type, and configuration.

The StowAway lid opens upward and toward the rear of the carrier, extending approximately 6 inches beyond the back wall of the box when fully open. If a rear-mounted obstruction is located within approximately 6 inches of the back of the box, it may be necessary to swing the carrier away from the vehicle in order to fully open the lid.
